Metaphysics (1) is a jewellery project grounded in traditional Chinese metaphysical thought, exploring invisible belief systems that exist beyond rational explanation yet continue to shape cultural practices and personal experience.
Drawing on concepts from the I Ching and Daoist philosophy, the project investigates ideas of change, balance, destiny, and the relationship between the visible and the unseen. Rather than treating metaphysics as a tool for prediction, the work approaches it as a symbolic framework through which uncertainty, belief, and intuition are negotiated.
Through the reinterpretation of traditional symbols, texts, and visual languages, these metaphysical ideas are translated into contemporary jewellery forms. Metal structures, layering, cut-outs, and enclosure are used to embed symbols within the body of the object, allowing meaning to be partially concealed and revealed through interaction.
In this project, jewellery functions not only as adornment but as a medium for embodied reflection. The act of wearing becomes a quiet engagement with metaphysical thought, inviting the wearer to consider how belief systems influence perception, decision-making, and one’s relationship to uncertainty.
