Path Bias explores how wooden divination objects can evoke randomness in interaction while offering emotional comfort and symbolic guidance. The project examines the tension between chance and direction by translating behavioural bias into tangible, physical forms. Rather than promising certainty, it proposes an alternative understanding of choice, one that acknowledges the unseen forces shaping everyday decision-making.
The project is relevant in a contemporary context dominated by optimisation, prediction, and control. By foregrounding uncertainty, it creates space for reflection on how decisions are influenced beyond conscious intention.
The work consists of a series of interactive wooden artefacts that function as divination-like devices. Using pathways, articulated mechanisms, and joinery-based structures, each object stages moments of chance and guided movement. Through touch, participation, and material engagement, the project transforms abstract behavioural concepts into embodied experiences, making visible the subtle structures through which we navigate uncertainty.
