This stage functions as a preparatory and exploratory phase within my MA Fashion Artefact project, focusing on material, structural, and interactive investigations that inform the later development of my Master Project.
During Unit 2, my practice centred on the metaphor of pathways and choice, explored through a series of wooden artefact prototypes. Using timber, mortise-and-tenon construction, and internal track systems, I developed objects that can be activated and manipulated through physical interaction. As part of this process, I briefly referenced Daoist hand gestures as a form of embodied language, using their rhythm and directional qualities to reflect on the relationship between bodily action, structure, and movement pathways.
The work prioritises process over outcome. The configuration of paths, the degree of constraint within movement, and the unpredictability of results collectively shape the user’s experience, positioning structure as a means of engaging with uncertainty.
The outcomes of Unit 2 provide an important experimental and methodological foundation for the subsequent development of my Master Project.
